About Hadiyah

Hadiyah Carlyle began writing about her life in classes at Western Washington University in the 1970s.  Her passion for telling her story grew in the 1990s as she took workshops with Natalie Goldberg (Writing Down the Bones) and Julia Cameron (The Artist’s Way).

After moving to Seattle in 2001, she completed the year-long memoir program at the University of Washington Extension and has continued working in practice writing groups since that time.

Her work has been included in The Journey of Healing: Wisdom from Survivors of Sexual Abuse, edited by Marjorie Ryerson; Shine the Light: Sexual Abuse and Healing in the Jewish Community, edited by Rachel Lev; and Women’s Encounters with the Mental Health Establishment: Escaping the Yellow Wallpaper, edited by Elayne Clift.
